It’s all about the swath! – Exceptional manoeuvrability, high efficiency and excellent flexibility with the new SIP STAR R central delivery rotary rakes

With the new SIP STAR R family of central rotary rakes, we offer new technologies for the harvesting of quality forage to the segment and requirements of medium to large farms and agricultural service providers. The new generation of rotary rakes is designed for those who are looking for robust and powerful machines, at the same time easy to operate, easy to move between plots and easy to maintain.

The ROBUST line has been extended with four new models offering working widths up to 9.30 m. All models feature a new arch-shaped chassis design, with higher frame. The rear transport frame is also higher, offering more room for manoeuvre when crossing over the swaths. The open and easily accessible steering mechanism and the reduced number of lubrication points on the rotors make maintenance quick and easy. The rotor drive is enclosed and in semi-liquid grease so it requires no additional maintenance. All models are equipped with a two-point flexible hitch cat. II. They are extremely manoeuvrable as they achieve a turning angle of ± 77.5° or 150°, thus ensuring easy handling and perfect tractor tracking. The drive system consists of a Y-drive, which allows smaller PTO angles and reduced PTO shaft loads, resulting in longer service life. It also provides greater rotor adjustment angles to the ground, while allowing higher partial rotor lift for easier driving over swaths and when turning at the headlands.

For all new models, the type of chassis at the rear of the rotors is chosen as obligatory equipment when ordering the machine. Tandem wheels are standard on the front of the rotors and two options can be chosen on the rear part of the rotors. One option is a 2x swivel wheel (2 wheels) and the other option is a 2x tandem chassis (4 wheels). The latter allows exceptional ground adaptation and is recommended especially for use on rough terrain. Depending on the specifics of the plots and the working conditions, the type of wheels for the transport frame is also selected as obligatory equipment.

Small, manoeuvrable and easy to use

The smallest model in the new family is extremely simple and easy to use. The STAR R 670|22 TC is equipped with two rotors with a diameter of 2.86 m, each with 11 spring-tines carriers (arms). The capacity of this rake is up to 9 ha/h. It has a mechanical working height adjustment and a fixed working width adjustment with three rotor positions, allowing working widths of 5.80 m, 6.20 m and 6.70 m. Depending on the amount of forage, the swath widths are 1.10 m, 1.85 m and 2.30 m. These widths are suitable for picking up with different types of loading wagons and balers. The transport height also depends on the working width setting, which is up to 3.85 m in the case of folded arms and folded protection failings. In the case of transport with the arms mounted on the rotor, the transport height exceeds 4.0 m when the maximum working width of 6.70 m is used. In this case, the arms have to be removed and therefore the rake is equipped as standard with holders to store them safely during transport. For narrow wheels on the transport frame and when working with the maximum working width, the use of weights is recommended for greater stability when working in inclined conditions and also during transport. The rake is suitable to use with lighter tractors with a minimum of 40kW/55 HP.

A mechanical swath curtain as standard equipment allows the creation of uniform and trapezoidal swaths, regardless of the amount of forage. It can be mounted on the left or right side of the rotor, depending on the needs of the user. When working with the smallest working width, the swath curtain must be removed to avoid contact with the rotors.

For work on sloping or uneven terrain, a mechanical rotor relief is available as an optional equipment. The four-stage adjustment allows optimum ground adaptation, reduces damage to the turf and increases stability on slopes.

To operate the machine, 1x single-acting (1EW) hydraulic connection is required. As an option, it is also possible to use electro-hydraulic control of the separate rotor lift by remote control or hydraulic control of the separate rotor lift without remote control by a valve on the tractor.

Efficient raking and comfort operation on medium sized plots

The slightly larger STAR R 770|24 TC combines comfort and ease of use. The working width is hydraulically adjustable between 6.00 and 7.70 m. It allows hydraulic adjustment of the swath width from 1.20 to 2.10 m and a capacity of up to 10 ha/h. The working height adjustment is mechanical. The mechanical swath curtain, as standard equipment, allows the production of uniform and trapezoidal swaths regardless of the amount of forage, and can be mounted on the left or right side of the rotor.

The transport height of the rake with the arms installed or removed is below 4.00 m, therefore the machine is not equipped with a holders for storage as standard but they are available as an optional equipment. The diameter of the rotors is larger on this model, namely 3.33 m. There is one more arm on each rotor than on the previous model, giving a total of 24 arms.

For working on inclines or rough terrain, mechanical rotor relief with four settings is also available as an option on this model. This can be adjusted according to the terrain, resulting in optimum adjustment, less damage to the turf and greater stability on a slope.

To operate this rake, 1x single-acting (1EW) and 1x double-acting (1DW) hydraulic connections are required. As an option, it is also possible to operate the separate rotor lift electro-hydraulically using a remote control or to operate the separate rotor lift hydraulically without a remote control and using a valve on the tractor.

Variety of models for specific working conditions

For the STAR R 870|26 TC and STAR R 930|TC rake models, you can choose either the basic version or the advanced “H” version with full hydraulic equipment. The basic model is equipped with mechanical relief and mechanical height adjustment of the rotors, while electro-hydraulic separate partial lift of the rotors is available as an option. The version with full hydraulic equipment offers the greatest comfort for the operator and operational precision. These include hydraulic relief and hydraulic rotor height adjustment and electro-hydraulic control, which in addition to rotor height adjustment also allows separate partial rotor lift. In the latter, a hydraulic cylinder is used to lock the partial lift. The mechanical version requires 1x single-acting (1EW)and 1x double-acting (1DW) hydraulic connection. The hydraulic version requires 1x double-acting (1DW)and 2x single-acting (2EW) hydraulic connection. The electro-hydraulic separate lift of the rotors, which is available as an option for the mechanical versions of both working widths, requires an additional 1x double-acting (1DW) hydraulic connection.

The new rotor mounting design, the 3D+ flexible rotor mounting, allows the rotor to be lifted sequentially and, in combination with the hydro-pneumatic suspension and the triple-walking tandem, provides excellent ground adaptation. The transport height with folded protection railings and removed arm is up to 3.40 m. The transport width is also up to 3.00 m, which ensures unhindered road transport. As the machine is trailed, the minimum tractor power is 60 kW or 80 HP. A PTO shaft rotation speed of 540 rpm is required and a PTO shaft rotation speed of between 350 and 420 rpm is recommended for the work.

Suitable for larger farms and contractors

These models are designed for efficient raking of large areas. They are suitable for larger farms and agricultural service providers, who choose the versions of the machines according to their needs. The combination of an optimally adapted rotor curve and a mechanical swath curtain, which comes as standard equipment, allows the formation of uniform and airy trapezoidal swaths, regardless of the amount of forage. The central swath curtain on the ‘H’ model is equipped with a lifting cylinder which prevents lifting during partial lift of the rotors and ensures that a uniform swath is formed even when only one rotor is at work position.

The working width range of the STAR R 870|26 TC /H is between 7.60 and 8.60 m and the capacity is up to 11 ha/h. The width of the swath can be easily adjusted to the amount of forage and the width of the forage pick-up technology, ranging from 1.30 to 2.20 m. Depending on the chosen equipment, the weight of the machine is around 2600 kg. The transport height with the arms attached and unfolded safety railings is under 4.00m for this model, so storage holders are available as an option. For reliable working, a spare wheel with carrier can also be selected as an optional equipment.

The working width of the STAR R 930|28 TC /H is between 8.20 and 9.30 m, with a capacity of up to 14 ha/h, to suit users with larger operational requirements. The width of the rake can be easily adjusted between 1.30 and 2.40 m. The weight of the machine depends on the chosen equipment and is around 2800 kg. The transport height with the arms attached and unfolded safety railings is over 4.00 m for this model, so storage holders are available as standard. A spare wheel with carrier can also be chosen as an additional equipment for reliable work.
