In this issue of PowerGear, we tested the latest and perhaps the best SIP mower model, which is perfect for large Danish farms. This is a new triple mower combination from the Slovenian company SIP, which has been manufacturing grassland harvesting machines exclusively for many years.
A few years ago, SIP lagged somewhat behind its competitors in the market and was therefore not immediately noticeable, but this picture has now changed. With its latest agricultural equipment for grassland harvesting, SIP is proving that Danish farmers can confidently choose this brand when purchasing new equipment, particularly when choosing mower combinations with conveyor belts.
Comfortable work
The SIP DISC HD 1000 D is already proving itself in the field with its efficient operation and good adaptability to the ground. This is thanks to the completely new chassis and suspension design, which allows the cutter bars to be easily adjusted to the ground conditions from the tractor cab.
The chassis has a high load capacity, and the double unit weighs over 4300 kg, which is the same as the competition. The entire double unit and front mower unit are newly developed, with only the discs being carried over from previous models.

Efficient and flexible
The dual unit at the rear does an excellent job. It followed the terrain nicely and mowed evenly on most of the terrain it worked on, which is what you would expect from a mower. Nothing more, nothing less!
The working width can be hydraulically adjusted from 9.2 to 10.2 meters. Most will probably drive with the maximum width, but on headlands where more turning is required, driving with a width of 9.2 meters may be preferable to avoid uncut strips. In the field, you can then open up the full width and achieve full performance.

I tested the mowing combination with a Fendt 942 tractor, which completed two passes with a width of 9.2 meters without any problems, despite the trees right next to the boundary.
The discs are easy to replace and each disc has its own safety system – in fact, there are three shear pins on each disc. If you hit an obstacle, the connection is broken and the pins are torn off the individual discs, reducing the risk of major damage to the rest of the drive system. A good solution that can save a lot of money.
ISOBUS control – but without LS
The combination of mowers is controlled via the operator or via ISOBUS, but without Load Sensing (LS).
Some may miss this, but for most – if not all – it will work just fine without it. Everything is controlled via hydraulic valves, and the tractor unit provides all working configurations, including a timer for the hydraulics and an automatic front hitch.

Mower with belts on the market for the first time – and it works!
SIP is offering mowers with belts for the first time, which are very well suited to the needs of Danish agriculture, especially on larger farms. The belt works well and can be individually controlled from the cab, including lifting, lowering, and activation.
However, an automatic function via ISOBUS would be an advantage, especially if you want to switch between belts while working in the field. Currently, manual hydraulic control is required, which may make you miss the LS a little, but you will get used to it without any problems.

Conclusion
There is no doubt that this mower is currently a serious competitor on the Danish market. This is not just another mower – no, this is actually something that I think is really good and that, in my opinion, will also work well for demanding users.
The mower cuts as it should and allows for a high working speed. During testing, I drove at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour, which was appropriate for a good result. However, the machine could easily handle even more.
The quality is high, especially when lifting and lowering the units. Operation is smooth and precise. It follows the terrain well and the ground pressure is easy to adjust. The tractor settings are simple and the height adjustment is user-friendly with clear markings.
In summary: The SIP mower combination can secure a strong position in the Danish market. It has everything you would expect from a professional mower and more, making it suitable for larger farms and agricultural centers.
