Machinery preparation for the grassland harvesting season

Regular maintenance of agricultural machinery is necessary for long-term operation, reduced wear, and the prevention of serious damage to machinery.

Before the season starts, we clean and inspect the wear-parts and the condition of the hydraulic system on individual machines. Check if an oil change is required and lubricate the machines at all lubrication points.

In addition to the optimal mowing height and settings, sharp blades are essential for a good cut. The grass should be cut smoothly and not torn off, because torn grass is more exposed to environmental influences and infections due to its larg-er surface area and poorer regrowth. It is important that each disc has two blades and that all blades are evenly worn. When one cutting edge is worn, the knife can be turned around. When changing the blades, pay attention to the direction of the disc rotation. The correct position of the blades is that they are oriented in the direction of disc rotation and that they are movably clamped. The QCS (Quick Change System) for SILVERCUT DISC and DISC ALP mowers enables quick and easy blade change. with a special tool attached to the mower.

Smooth and evenly mowed grass can be achieved if all parts of the cutting bar are free of damage or cracks. It is necessary to check for possible oil leaks from and the joints under the discs. Damaged or excessively worn discs must be replaced. To prevent damage to the cutting bar, it is necessary to check the condition or wear of the additional skids. Additional skids also divert soil and sand under the cutting bar, thus preventing forage contamination. The skids must be at least 2 mm thick oth-erwise they need to be replaced.

Check the PTO joints and lubricate the lu-brication points on the PTOs. In the case of PTO with a clutch, inspect the clutch. For belt drives, check the condition and ten-sion of the belts. Lubricate the main bolt on the cutting bar frame and the bolts on the mower arms and all other places. Check the rotor curve lubrication at the STAR rakes and lubricate the arms and bearing tubes. Check the oil level and the amount of semi-liquid grease in the gear units of the machines. Hydraulic hoses must be undamaged. The tightness of hydraulic hoses, quick couplings, hydraulic cylin-ders, and gear units must be also checked.

All protective curtains on the mower must be undamaged. If the ejection of stones and sticks is not prevented, the machine, tractor, or persons may be damaged while mowing. Also, pay attention to cracks and excessive wear of the tires and be sure to check their pressure.
